Will Valve release a killer iPhone / iPad app?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

With Steam coming to the Mac I am left wondering if Valve will create the ultimate gaming app. Being able to monitor and control your Steam control panel, buy and manage games all on your phone or tablet would be pretty slick.

There’s a large amount of indie and ‘right size’ games that would be perfect for the iPhone and iPad. Since you can do purchases inside apps, this seems like a nice way, convenient way to take advantage of everything Steam has to offer.

Steam also seems to be offering more social networking within the interface, again perfect for the casual use of an iPhone or iPad.

It really seems like the ultimate for gamer management. My inner nerd demands this be so!

Too cold to take off the gloves? Mash your sausage on the iPhone

Post too good to pass up.

As report by Engadget:

the good people of South Korea have stumbled on a decidedly more low-tech (and delicious) solution to using their phones in the winter: sausages. Apparently snack sausages from the CJ Corporation are electrostatically compatible with the iPhone’s capacitive touchscreen

As a dude that has been shoveling snow for a week and listening to podcasts while doing such, this is such a great idea. Taking off those gloves to skip to the next podcast while it’s snowing and the wind is hammering you at 40 mph was annoying.

Now I know to just whip out the ol sausage stick and smear it across the screen – and if I get hungry while shoveling, I have a snack at hand!

Today, Apple failed me.

I have a long commute.

My sanity is barely held in check thanks only to a variety of quality podcasts that keep me distracted from the urge to throttle the life from my fellow commuters.

I should preface this with I’ve used varios Apple products for 15 year with almost no trouble. That’s an impressive track record.

On the otherhand when things go South there are fewer resources to go to in order to figure out a fix.

So imagine my horror as I pulled onto the highway only to realize no sound was coming from my iPhone. A quick check of the iPod app revealed an empty library, yet 15 gigs were still showing as used on the disk.

Somehow that 15 gigs of music, books, and podcasts became unrecognizable. A quick web search reveals that this isn’t the only occurrence, others have mysteriously lost their whole music libraries as well with no warning.

Worse, the only fix seems to be reconnecting to the computer the iPhone is synced to and re-downloading the complete library. That does me no good when said computer is sitting 54 miles away.

So get your shit together Apple and get this patched… or I’ll be forced to write more whiny rants until my two-year contract is up and I can purchase a phone on the Android platform (with actual Java and Flash support. Hurray!).

Meanwhile, I can look forward to a long commute home devoid of the one thing that keeps humanity safe.

You’ve been warned!
